Position: Zoo Operations Manager
Job Summary:
We are seeking a skilled and experienced Zoo Operations Manager to oversee the day-to-day operations of our veterinary medicine facility specializing in animal health management. As the Zoo Operations Manager, you will be responsible for ensuring the smooth functioning of all operational aspects within the zoo, including supervising staff, managing animal health programs, coordinating visitor experiences, and maintaining a safe and secure environment for both animals and guests.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Manage all aspects of zoo operations, including animal welfare, staff management, visitor services, and facility maintenance.
2. Develop and implement animal health programs in collaboration with the veterinary medicine team, ensuring compliance with relevant regulations and industry standards.
3. Oversee the coordination of animal nutrition, enrichment programs, and medical treatments, ensuring the well-being of all zoo inhabitants.
4. Supervise a diverse team of zookeepers, veterinary technicians, and support staff, fostering a positive work environment and providing guidance and training as needed.
5. Collaborate with other departments, such as education and marketing, to plan and execute engaging visitor experiences, educational programs, and special events.
6. Maintain accurate records related to animal health, breeding programs, and veterinary treatments, utilizing appropriate software systems.
7. Ensure compliance with health and safety regulations, including emergency response protocols, and conduct regular inspections to identify potential risks and implement appropriate corrective measures.
8. Manage budgets and financial resources effectively, including procurement of necessary supplies, equipment, and services for the zoo operations.
9. Stay up-to-date with industry trends, new technologies, and scientific advancements in animal health management, and implement best practices accordingly.
10. Represent the zoo at conferences, meetings, and community events, fostering relationships with external stakeholders and promoting conservation efforts.
Required Skills and Qualifications:
1. Bachelor's degree in Veterinary Medicine, Animal Sciences, Zoology, or related field. Advanced degree preferred.
2. Proven experience in managing zoo operations or similar animal-related facilities, including staff supervision and animal welfare.
3. In-depth knowledge of veterinary medicine principles, animal behavior, and conservation practices.
4. Strong leadership and communication skills, with the ability to effectively collaborate and motivate a diverse team.
5. Excellent organizational and problem-solving abilities, with attention to detail and ability to prioritize tasks in a fast-paced environment.
6. Proficiency in computer applications relevant to zoo operations and record-keeping.
7. Knowledge of safety protocols and emergency response procedures in an animal facility setting.
8. Ability to work flexible hours, including weekends and holidays, as required by zoo operations.
9. Demonstrated passion for animal welfare, conservation, and public education.
